Selection process
Final selection is based on meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria and the GATE score — there is no separate written test or interview.
Online Application
Only candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria who have registered on the NIC recruitment portal are considered for further selection.
Step 1Merit List on GATE Score
A category-wise merit list is prepared for each discipline in order of GATE score. Candidates must submit their best GATE score from any one of the eligible years in the discipline applied for. GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026 carry equal weightage.
Step 2Tie Resolution
In case of a tie in GATE score: first, the older GATE year is ranked higher; second, if score and year are the same, the older candidate is ranked higher; third, the candidate with the higher percentage in the essential qualification declared in the application is ranked higher.
Step 3Document Verification
Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification as per the vacancies. Authorisation Letters can be downloaded from the website. Failure to appear on the specified date, time and place with original documents results in rejection of candidature.
Step 4Provisional Appointment
Candidates found eligible after document verification are offered provisional appointment, subject to fulfilment of all other prescribed eligibility criteria. Merely fulfilling the requirements does not make a candidate eligible for appointment.
Step 5Application fee
Payable online only. Candidates applying for more than one discipline must pay ₹800 for every discipline. Bank charges towards remittance, if any, are to be borne by the candidate. Fee through Cash, Demand Draft, Pay Order, Cheque or Challan will not be accepted. Application fee once paid is non-refundable. NIC is not responsible for incomplete online payment transactions.

Only relevant, complete and legible documents should be uploaded — irrelevant, incomplete or illegible uploads may lead to rejection of the application.
